Position Overview We are seeking an experienced HVAC Controls Programmer to design, develop, and commission building automation system (BAS) controls for commercial HVAC projects. The ideal candidate will program control sequences, integrate and optimize systems for energy efficiency, troubleshoot and commission field installations, and collaborate with project engineers, technicians, and clients to deliver reliable, code-compliant solutions. Proficiency with Tridium (Niagara), Schneider EcoStruxure, and commercial HVAC controls is highly desired.
Key Responsibilities - Develop, program, and implement control strategies for commercial HVAC systems using platforms such as Tridium (Niagara) and Schneider EcoStruxure.
- Configure and integrate BAS devices and protocols (BACnet, Modbus, Niagara drivers, etc.) to ensure reliable communication across systems.
- Commission and startup HVAC control systems on-site, perform functional testing, adjust control sequences and tune control loops for optimal performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues in the field and remotely; provide timely technical support to service teams and clients.
- Create and maintain clear, professional documentation including control narratives, point lists, sequence descriptions, network diagrams, and commissioning reports.
- Work closely with mechanical and electrical engineers, project managers, contractors, and clients to translate design requirements into effective control solutions and ensure project milestones are met.
- Perform system upgrades, retrofits, and migrations, ensuring backward compatibility and minimal disruption to building operations.
- Adhere to industry standards, codes, and cybersecurity best practices for building automation systems; participate in risk assessments and implement secure configurations.
- Provide training and handover support to operations teams and building staff on system operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Participate in design reviews, site surveys, and project meetings; contribute to scope development, estimates, and technical proposals.
Qualifications - Associate or Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, HVAC Technology, or related technical field; or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 3+ years of experience programming and commissioning commercial HVAC building automation systems.
- Hands-on experience with Tridium Niagara (AX/N4) platform and Niagara Workbench development.
- Experience with Schneider EcoStruxure (or similar vendor BAS platforms) and vendor-specific tools.
- Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, control sequences, sensors, actuators, VAVs, boilers, chillers, pumps, and AHUs.
- Familiarity with building automation communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, Lon, OPC) and IP networking fundamentals.
- Proven commissioning and troubleshooting experience in the field, including use of test tools and data-logging for sequence verification and tuning.
- Good documentation and technical writing skills; ability to produce control narratives, point lists, and commissioning reports.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid drivers license and ability to travel to job sites; willingness to work occasional after-hours for commissioning or urgent support.
- Professional certifications a plus: Tridium Niagara certification, Schneider EcoStruxure certification, Certified HVAC Controls Technician, or similar.
