Job Description

Summary The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field‑based, customer‑facing, non‑promotional medical and scientific position. The MSL’s key objective is to advance clinical practice within the assigned territory to improve patient outcomes. The role requires deep therapeutic expertise, the ability to understand territory and market influences, and to engage scientifically with Healthcare Providers (HCPs) and medical experts. It involves managing and developing the territory, executing activities aligned with the medical strategic plan while adhering to Novartis Code of Conduct, Ethics/Compliance policies and Working Practice documents. The MSL informs and shapes medical strategy by applying a curious mindset to collect impactful, actionable insights with a clear understanding of their strategic impact. This field‑based, remote opportunity supports key accounts in South Texas. The preferred location for the successful candidate is San Antonio or Austin, Texas, or a major airport near the territory. Novartis does not offer relocation support or visa sponsorship. Please apply only if this location is accessible and you meet the eligibility criteria. Key Responsibilities Leverage scientific expertise and market knowledge to establish and build professional relationships with HCPs and other thought leaders in the geographic area in line with medical strategy. Engage with customers to discuss emerging data, clinical trial activities, barriers in patient journey, market dynamics, unmet medical needs, pipeline discussions, disease state education, adverse event capture, and medical insights throughout the product lifecycle. Demonstrate strategic territory vision and ensure appropriate territory identification, mapping, and planning of Medical Engagements (MEs) and Key Accounts aligned to medical strategy and in collaboration with internal Novartis colleagues. Identify key stakeholders with influence on the patient journey and disease space throughout product development to establish education, engagement, and partnership strategies. Identify opportunities for partnership with academic centers, centers of excellence, and/or systems of care to drive impact within the assigned territory. Identify opportunities to involve HCPs or MEs when a specific medical need is identified (e.g., publications, clinical trial participation). Identify opportunities for internal collaboration with other Novartis stakeholders to drive therapeutic area, clinical, or product goals as appropriate. Provide clinical trial support for company‑sponsored trials and collaborate cross‑functionally with Medical Affairs and Clinical Operations. Collaborate regularly with internal colleagues (HEOR, access, marketing, commercial, sales) within the therapeutic area and territory to advance clinical practice while maintaining customer centricity. Maintain in‑depth knowledge of the therapeutic area and Novartis compounds to serve as a medical resource to customers and internal colleagues. Maintain knowledge of internal policies and external regulations (e.g., Working Practice Documents, travel policy, expense policy) and their impact on day‑to‑day responsibilities. Execute all administrative responsibilities and training (Veeva CRM, voicemail, e‑mail, expense reports, compliance modules) in a timely manner, including profiling core customers and ensuring up‑to‑date CRM information. Champion emerging responsibilities as strategic priorities and territory needs evolve. Proactively drive personal and professional development. Essential Requirements Education: Graduate degree in a science or healthcare discipline required; doctoral degree preferred (MD, PhD, DNP, PharmD, etc.). Leveling: The position will be filled at a level commensurate with experience. Manager Level: 0–3 years in a field‑medical or MSL position OR 3–5 years of relevant medical affairs, clinical research, or related experience.
