Senior Staff Accountant

Position Overview

An expanding organization in Illinois is seeking an accounting specialist to manage day-to-day operations and lead critical financial cycles. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-moving environment focused on operational excellence. This individual will partner with multiple teams, drive process improvements, and maintain highly accurate financial records.

Key Qualifications

• Experience: Proven track record leading the month-end close process independently.
• Core Skills: Deep expertise in journal entries and general ledger maintenance.
• Location: Must be located in or commutable to the Chicagoland area.

Core Responsibilities

• Financial Closures: Lead month-end close activities, prepare journal entries, and perform deep-dive account reconciliations.
• Reporting: Compile financial data and assemble comprehensive reporting packages for leadership review.
• Ledger Management: Oversee general ledger work, review corporate card expenses, and confirm appropriate account coding.
• Transactional Operations: Manage accounts payable processing, invoice entry, payment coordination, and vendor statement reconciliation.
• Receivables & Billing: Record customer billing activity, apply incoming payments, and maintain accurate receivable balances.
• Platform Reconciliation: Review transaction activity from external payment and sales platforms, reconcile discrepancies, and post entries.
• Intercompany Accounting: Enter intercompany transactions and reconcile multi-entity balances on a recurring basis.
• Operational Analysis: Generate recurring reports for internal teams, including revenue tracking and commission support.
• Audit & Tax: Support audit requests, prepare tax-related workpapers, handle compliance notices, and document internal accounting procedures.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• At least 3 years of accounting experience with hands-on exposure to general ledger activity and month-end close.

• Working knowledge of journal entries, reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable processes.

• Ability to analyze financial information accurately and maintain strong attention to detail in a deadline-driven setting.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other standard business software applications.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work independently and collaborate across teams.

• Experience with ERP systems.
