Job Description
We are looking for a Full or Part-time Wood Technician to join our team at Merlin Industries Inc., a boutique commercial cleaning company in NYC and surrounding locations.
Core Responsibilities:
-Sanding wood surfaces by hand or using power sanders to remove imperfections and ensure a smooth base for finishing.
-Mixing stains, paints, and pigments to achieve specific colors or to match existing furniture pieces.
-Applying finishes such as lacquer, varnish, shellac, oil, or paint using brushes, rollers, or industrial spray guns.
-Performing advanced decorative tasks like distressing, glazing, antiquing, or gold-leafing.
-Inspecting finished items for runs, bubbles, or uneven coats, and performing touch-ups or repairs as needed.
-Cleaning and maintaining spray booths, guns, and other equipment to ensure safety and longevity.
Technical Skills & Requirements:
-Deep understanding of different wood species and how they react to various chemicals and moisture levels
-Experience with pneumatic spray systems (HVLP), orbital sanders, and chemical stripping agents.
-Ability to spot minute flaws in grain patterns or finish consistency.
-Knowledge of handling hazardous materials (VOCs) and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including respirators.
